Mark Howarth
Co-founders
The inventor of our SpyTag/SpyCatcher protein superglue technology, Mark continues to take an active interest in SpyBiotech as a co-founder of the company.
He is Professor of Protein Nanotechnology at Oxford University’s Department of Biochemistry where he has been a principal investigator since 2007. His academic research continues to focus on the development of a range of ultra-stable biochemical interactions that can produce bacterial superglues. Beyond vaccine development, these are being applied by research scientists around the world to enzyme stabilization, biomaterials, synthetic biology and the assembly of molecular teams for cancer detection.
In 2017 Mark was awarded the prestigious Royal Society of Chemistry Norman Heatley Award for creating the new family of irreversible protein interactions in which our SpyTag/SpyCatcher technology has its origins.
